Ahaan's pov:
'Aariz bhai's marriage is fixed!'
Aryan texted in the group chat. It wasn't that surprising to be honest. Aariz was going to say yes anyway. It depended on the girl's family. Everyone ran after our parents to get their daughter married to us. No one would say no to marrying a Raihan.
Actually, I take that back. No one, except a Rahsin, would say no to marrying a Raihan. A Rahsin. And I'm thankful for that. I can't even stand her at work! There is no way I'd be able to stand her if she was family.
For other girls, they wouldn't wait a second to say yes, not knowing anything about the inside of our family, not knowing anything about us, not caring how we would treat them. Just say yes unless we threaten you. Which I am surprised about.
Aariz probably told the girl something that would scare her. And she still said yes? Talk about gold-diggers.
Aryan: ' His engagement is next week!'
Azaan: 'Next week?'
I don't have time for all this. Next week? That's so quick! Didn't they just meet?
Aryan: 'And the wedding is in two weeks.'
Azaan: 'Two weeks? That's ridiculous! I thought mum would take longer for the preparations and everything!'
I agree with Azaan. But I'm not in the mood to text back right now. My mind keeps thinking about that girl. The Nightmare. How can she call me Angry Bird?
Aariz: 'Hello to you all. I wish I could not invite you. But alas! You're all my brother and the media would love to see your face. The wedding will take place in Paris. Come home and Ma will explain the rest.'
Aryan: 'Yes! Mumma planned everything already. Anyways, why is Ahaan bhai just looking at our chats? Too busy with your girlfriends?'
Ahaan: 'I don't have a girlfriend! And I'm not wasting my time in all this. I'll hear the rest at home but now I'm going.'
Saying that, I put my phone on silent and put it down. They'll keep sending messages now. Specially Aryan.
I open the file again and re-read the names.
Main doctor- Dr Rahsin
Assistant surgeon- Dr Rahsin
Dr Rahsin. Dr Rahsin. Dr Rahsin.
Why her? So far, all her surgeries have been with me. Why? I get it, she is good. One of the only surgeons who can work at the same pace as me. But others will have to learn. And her being a good surgeon is probably the only good thing about her. She is such a nightmare for the rest of the time.
.
"Take leave from the hospital. We're going to fly on the night of the engagement and come back after the wedding." Mum says as soon as I enter the house.
"All the other ceremonies will be in Paris? Haldi? Mehendi? Nikkah and everything else?" Aryan asks excitedly.
"Yes, we still have a large amount of guests coming." Dad says.
"But mumma! Aren't we going to do a traditional wedding?" Aryan says disappointedly.
"Yes, just in Paris. It will be fun beta. Don't worry." Ma reassures him. Something she only does to Aryan and Aariz.
"I'll have to take leave for a whole month! That will be very bad for my patients."
"So what? They have other doctors don't they? Just take a leave. It's not hard Ahaan." Mum says without looking at me.
Without a word, I leave the room. Arguing was pointless.
I throw all my things on the floor and get my laptop out to email the hospital. There was a knock.
"Bhai?" Aryan's voice comes from outside.
"What is it?"
He pops his head inside. "Can I come in?"
"If I say 'no', will you listen?" I say as he comes in and sits on the corner of the bed.
"Don't get angry. Mumma is just trying to make the wedding grand as this is the first wedding of one of us brothers. She would've done the same for you if you agreed to get married."
"If your Mumma asked you to convince me, then I suggest you get out. It's not like she'll accept if I say no anyway."
"No, I came here cause I wanted to talk to my favourite brother." Aryan says with confidence.
"Say that in front of Aariz." I dared him.
"Now you're just trying to kill me. Anyways, think about how fun it will be! A whole month in Paris! With no businessmen behind us begging to get their daughters married to us. Wait no, I take it back. Still! It's Paris! We'll be able to have the time of our lives. Cheer up! Wait that's not possible for you grumpy man. But still, yeah? Think a little positively. Bye" he leaves the room before I could tell him off for calling me grumpy.
What's with everyone giving me nicknames?
Karya's pov:
"Paris? Oh my god!" Nafisa screams through the group voice call.
"Yes! Don't worry, I'll pay for all your tickets don't worry." Noor says after.
"Noor, are you sure about this?" Aliyah asks again. She called me after we left the cafe saying how she thinks this is a very bad idea. I thought it was as well. But it's Noor's decision overall. And who knows, she might be able to change him. I'm the author of the group so it's my job to give everyone delusional hopes but Nafisa does that instead of me. Noor gives reality checks. Aliyah and I are somewhere in the middle.
Things in a book and things in real life are so much different. The only time I allow myself to drown in delusion is when I'm writing.
"Yes! Don't worry guys. I'll be fine. And he is not that bad. I promise I'll be alright. Don't forget the dress code! Modern white! I need to go now. But be there in the engagement. Take a leave from everything! I want this month to be the best month of my life! Your desi girl's out!" Noor says before hanging up.
"Is it just me, or are we all worried for our desi girl?"Nafisa says after Noor left.
"Definitely not just you, I'm also worried. What about you? Our harami ladki." Aliyah asks me.
"Yeah obviously I'm worried! By what you both said, Raihans are not very good."
"Hmm yeah. Anyways, let's think positively. It's Noor's engagement! She can surely change Aariz! Maybe our harami girl can even write a story about them!" There was a pause, some noises were heard from Nafisa's side. "I need to go! But yeah. Let's enjoy the moment! Daydreamer out!" Nafisa leaves.
"I'll hang up as well then. Harami ladki out." I say and hang up.
We came up with these nicknames for each other when we were in the first year of college and just started to get to know each other. Desi girl for Noor as she was the only one in the group who always wore traditional dresses. They suit her very well. Daydreamer for Nafisa as she is the delusional one. Sassassin (Savage assassin) for Aliyah as she was the cold and savage one. And Harami ladki for me as I am a romance author. It was Nafisa's idea to say our nicknames at the end when leaving the group call. She said it felt like we were in an important spy meeting. We started doing it and we all got used to it.
I open my laptop and resume writing the chapter I was writing.
He opened the door to his bedroom. What he saw left him in shock. She was there sitting on the table, eating the bed.
Oh heck no. What am I writing? Eating the bed? What is happening to me?
I get a text from Aliyah.
'Please tell me it's not just me who can't focus on anything else and is worried about Noor!'
'U r definitely not alone! Look at what I wrote!'
I send her the pic of my female lead eating a bed to which she replies with laughing emojis.
'Do you want to meet me to shop for dresses for Noor's engagement? Nafu and Noor are shopping together. Yk? Perks of living two houses away from each other. They are going to a mall in another town with the whole family.'
'Sure, meet me in the mall in 30 mins?'
'Okay'
Nafisa and Noor lived 5 minutes away from each other and their families were really close as well. Me and Aliyah lived in the other side of the town. Our places were about forty minutes away from each other. We normally met at the mall when we wanted to see each other as it was about 20 minutes away from both her place and mine.
I lived in a house in a small neighbourhood surrounded by houses. While she lived in an apartment alone. Away from her family.
So her family doesn't bother her.
